We have two different treatments we use for cellulite, RADIESSE® and Sculptra.
Sculptra Aesthetic has been approved for use in the US and around the world since 1999. Typically, Sculptra is used to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds, and it can also be used to improve facial volume and treat lipoatrophy. But beyond that, Sculptra can be used to treat cellulite.
In December 2006, RADIESSE® received FDA approval in the United States for facial soft tissue augmentation, including treatment of wrinkles, folds, chin dimples, nasolabial folds, and HIV-associated facial lipoatrophy (facial wasting).
HOW DO THESE FILLERS WORK ON CELLULITE?
Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material which is both biocompatible and biodegradable. It's found in dissolvable stitches and is naturally absorbed by the body. When using Sculptra on cellulite, the treatment is minimally invasive, their is no down time and is relatively painless. The injected Sculptra stimulates your body to create new collagen which fills up the dimples.
RADIESSE® is a very unique filler. It also is used for some pretty unique treatments that a lot of people aren’t aware of. Unlike most of the other dermal fillers available, RADIESSE® is not a hyaluronic acid, but rather it is made of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel. What makes RADIESSE® unique is the ability of the product to act as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and stimulating your own natural collagen to grow.
The production of natural collagen continues for several months, which extends beyond the initial effect of RADIESSE® Results are natural looking and can last more than a year. Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA, leaving behind only your own natural collagen. RADIESSE® is a heavier dermal filler and is therefore good for adding volume and structure and providing support to the overlying skin.
WHAT'S THE CELLULITE TREATMENT LIKE?
During your appointment, we will locate the cellulite dimples and mark the areas to be treated. Lidocaine is added to the filler to reduce discomfort from the injections. Using a fine gauge needle the fibrous brand which are pulling down on the skin will be broken up and then the filler will be injected.
Right after treatment, the areas are massaged to help distribute the filler evenly. This process helps prevent lumps and bumps. There is little to no downtown after receiving these cellulite treatments and most patients return to normal activities immediately. If you are feeling discomfort you can apply a cold compress as needed. Bruising is expected because of the injections.
After 6 weeks, patients come in for their follow up treatment and we can assess if more product is needed of if your body filled the dimple completely. Most patients need 3+ treatments of Sculptra and/or RADIESSE® for optimal results.
Is Sculptra or Radiesse Right for Me?
Yes, if you are one of the 90% of women who are worried about their cellulite
IS SCLUPTRA OR RADIESSE SAFE TO USE ON CELLULITE?
Yes! PLLA, the main ingredient in Sculptra, is biologically inert and generally does not pose a risk of allergic reaction for patients. Sculptra is a natural looking subtle filler which makes your skin look fresher and more youthful.
All elective cosmetic procedures carry some level of risk, but the risks associated with RADIESSE® are minimal. Usually, injectable fillers are accompanied by the risk of allergic reaction. Since RADIESSE® is made of a substance that naturally occurs in the body, the risk of allergy is almost nonexistent.
Still, with how safe Sculptra and RADIESSE® are it is important to inform your doctor of any immune deficiencies, skin infections, rashes, or if you take medications like aspirin and anti-inflammatories that may affect the outcome of your treatment.
